![]() However, destroyers were never created for the purpose of ASW - they were actually created to deal with torpedo boats, and were originally titled Torpedo Boat Destroyers. ![]() Submarines primarily add counterplay for destroyers, which historically were used in antisubmarine warfare during both world wars. Gameplay-wise, submarines cause a mess of balance issues, being difficult enough for surface ships to attack that they had to add overly constrictive dive time limitations, while also having extremely limited weaponry that apparently can only function if unrealistic features are added (active pinging and homing torpedoes, seriously?). Submarines were used for attacking supply lines and convoys of merchant ships, not warships that could quickly and easily destroy them once they were discovered. The instances where subs were deployed against surface warships during ww1/2 can probably be counted on one hand, and even those were hardly ever intentional. ![]() Historically, submarines don't make much sense for this game. ![]() There's been a lot of controversy about the addition of submarines coming up, and I'd like to offer an alternative. ![]()
